As Stranger Things 4: Part Two drops on Netflix, here’s what we know about Vecna star Jamie Campbell Bower.
Hollywood fame
Although Jamie Campbell Bower’s fame has risen even higher since appearing as Henry Creel/Vecna in Stranger Things 4, the star has been a familiar face on the silver screen for quite some time.
In 2007, a 19 year old Jamie landed his debut film role in Tim Burton’s adaptation of Sweeney Todd as Anthony – showcasing his fabulous musical theatre skills in the process.
From there it was onwards and upwards for the star, appearing in Guy Ritchie’s Rock ‘n’ Rolla, The Twilight Saga as Caius Volturi and Jace Wayland in The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones.
That’s not all, as he has also played a younger Gellert Grindelwald in both the Harry Potter film series and its prequels, including Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald.
Along with landing theatre roles in productions such as Bend It Like Beckham: The Musical, it is no surprise that the star has an estimated net worth of £3m.
Harry Potter romance
It’s not only fame he found on the set of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part One, but also romance.
In 2010, Jamie and Ginny Weasley actress Bonnie Wright confirmed that they were dating, with the couple becoming engaged one year later.
Speaking about their engagement, Jamie told news website The Daily: “I am engaged. I’m very happy. It’s a wonderful, wonderful time.”
However, the couple amicably ended their engagement in 2012, with The Daily Mail reporting at the time that Jamie said he was “heartbroken.”
That’s not the only co-star romance that Jamie has had however, after dating his Mortal Instruments star Lily Collins from 2012-2013.
The couple have reportedly broken up and reunited on multiple occasions throughout the years since 2013.
However, the two stars broke up permanently in 2018.
A source told The Sun: “Lily and Jamie have clearly got a lot of history and they have been close for a long time, but in the end they decided they weren’t right for each other and it came to an end amicably.
“They are still friends and there are no hard feelings.”
Second job
When he is not delighting fans on screen, Jamie has previously wowed audiences with his incredible music skills too.
Formed in 2015, he and band Counterfeit released their debut album two years later, followed by a US tour.
However three years later in 2020, the band confirmed that they had split in a post on their Instagram page.
Jamie has since started working as a solo musician, telling NME that he began creating music at home during the pandemic, saying: “I’ve always been an artist.
“I’ve always been the person that’s like: ‘I’m going to go with this hammer and tongs for the rest of my life. I have no real plans or desire to do anything else.’
“At the end of Counterfeit, I was like, ‘Okay, well, I’m just going to crack on and do what I love and carry on doing what means the most to me.”
Jamie’s flair for music seems to run in the family too, as his mother Anne is a music manager, and his father David, works for the Gibson Guitar Company.
Huge transformation
Stranger Things fans were left in shock when it was revealed that One was series villain Vecna.
Jamie Campbell Bower’s One was exposed as Vecna in climatic scenes, with the actor undergoing a huge transformation to appear as the terrifying character onscreen.
Variety reported that the actor had to wear a “second skin” that contained 25 pieces of latex being glued around his body – weighing a total of 30 pounds (2 stone, 2 pounds).
The bodysuit was so terrifying that Jamie looked completely unrecognisable as the character, with prosthetics designer Barry Gower saying that the actor “deserved a medal” for having to deal with the amount of time it took to apply the suit.
However, Jamie Campbell Bower added that he got used to transforming into Vecna, saying: “I was like, ‘Cool, I now know this. I’m set, I’m ready to go.
“I know what I can do to help myself get into the space I need to be in.”
