He is known for his great love of mechanics and as one third of the original Top Gear trio on the BBC Three television series.
But as he has got older, James May has revealed some of his new-found hobbies also include “excessive drinking” and “talking to animals” after he finished filming his latest TV series.
The Grand Tour host, 59, is set to tour sunny Italy with the latest series of his travel show, Our Man in Italy, which launches on Amazon Prime on July 15.

The travel show comes after the success of Our Man in Japan in 2020, where he explored all that Japan had to offer.
This time, the TV legend has chosen one of the most popular holiday destinations for food as he roamed around Italy’s historic landmarks and idyllic countryside.
In the upcoming show, the car fanatic can be spotted venturing through the streets of Sicily and hiking up the Dolomites mountains as he shares learns about their rich culture.
During his stint, James will be seen treated to delicious food, whacky fancy dress outfits and thrilling water sports as he shares his thoughts on the beautiful country.
And now the TV presenter has revealed exclusively to Daily Star how cooking has quickly become quite a passion of his, in addition to drinking the days away.
He said: “Excess drinking. Before Italy I actually did quite a lot of cooking, I made a little cooking series as well for Amazon, so I started doing a lot of cooking and I still do.”
James went on to share his other lesser-known talents such as affinity for musical instruments and his guilty pleasure of lengthy TV shows.
“I’m not very good at it, but I quite enjoy the process. But I do all sorts of things, I make things. I attempt to play piano, I watch TV occasionally.”
The TV presenter went on to add how he also enjoys channelling his inner Dr. Doolittle and talking to animals on his travels.
James added: “Sometimes I simply lie down and look at the ceiling, or I go on bike rides and talk to animals. I quite like talking to animals, horses and things.”
It comes after the star confessed that he was excited to escape the company of his fellow Grand Tour presenters as they have an irritating habit of interrupting him when they make TV shows together.

He told us: “No, wasn’t tempted to phone them up. I was quite pleased not to have them to be honest.
“They interrupt a lot, which is annoying. When I’m making a TV show by myself, I can just keep going. It’s great!
“Until the crew tell me to shut up,” he cheekily added.
James, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond used to host Top Gear together until 2015, when they left the BBC to present The Grant Tour on Amazon Prime from 2016 onwards.
