BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent raises concerns for co-star as she asks after his recovery

BBC Breakfast star Sally Nugent succeeded in raising concerns for her channel co-star after a ‘brave’ experience in Cornwall.

TV presenter John McGuire was off at the Eden Project to kick off the Queen’s Baton Relay, as the torch heads around the country ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

John was tasked with enduring a zip wire experience alongside the first torch holder, plunging head first off a suspended platform while suited and booted.

But Sally was pulling no punches as she compared his flight to a “beagle”, joking with her co-host Jon Kay: “If you were watching an hour ago, you will have seen John McGuire flying like an eagle… or more possibly like a beagle…”

Jon quipped: “I think it was a lot more like a beagle, wasn’t it?”

Realising her words might have been a tad harsh, Sally added: “I feel a bit mean, he looked fantastic, I have to say. Braver than me.”

The pair went on to check in on John, with Sally telling him: “Morning John. Have you recovered?”

“Yeah, morning,” a slightly subdued John replied. He admitted: “Just about… is it a pigeon, is it a paper plane? Is it dopey man? You be the judge.”

He added: “I’ve just about regained my composure.”

During the initial flight, John told viewers: “What we’re going to do is arms out, and fly like an eagle… see you at the other end!”

He went on to joke that he was beating his competitor due to being “twice his weight”, giggling: “For some reason, I seem to have overtaken Olly. I think it’s because I weigh twice as much as he does!”

The sound proceeded to cut out, with Sally squealing: “Oh my gosh!”

Jon then joked: “‘For some reason I seem to be going faster’, that’s brilliant. It’s basic physics, John, but brilliant.”

As his co-star added: “I didn’t realise they were going head first! Literally flying like an eagle – come on John McGuire!”

“The eagle has landed,” Jon said as he finally reached the ground once more.

Now the baton is on its way to Birmingham, stopping first at Plymouth and travelling across the South West of England.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
