The Chase fans blown away as 'EastEnders star' spotted on ITV quiz show

Joe Swash’s career has taken a completely different turn, according to viewers of The Chase.

The popular game show returned to ITV screens on Thursday [July 14], with four new hopefuls hoping to walk away with thousands of pounds worth of cash.

Each contestant went against legendary Chaser, Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegarty as they battled through the rounds before all making it through to the final chase.

Going against Anne, each contestant had the opportunity to walk away with £5,500 from their group pot of £22,000.

But many fans couldn’t help but notice that contestant four, Anthony, looked very familiar to television presenter and former EastEnders star, Joe Swash.

Fans instantly took to Twitter to laugh about Anthony’s similarities to Joe, who is preparing to marry his fiancée, Stacey Solomon.

One fan penned: “#TheChase Anthony looks like a cross between Joel Dommett and Joe Swash.”

While a second went on to add: “Well turned on the TV and I thought @realjoeswash was on #TheChase with the contestants.”

“I looked up and was convinced Joe Swash was on #TheChase… Turns out his name is Anthony,” wrote a third.

Ahead of going head to head with Anne, Anthony shared an insight into what he would like to do if he was lucky enough to walk away with some cash.

The trainee account admitted he was “a bit sick” with living in London and longed to explore further afield if he could afford to do so.

He told Bradley: “I moved here about five years ago, to be honest, I’m a bit sick of living in London.

“We haven’t got loads of money so we decided to visit a few small towns, a bit of the off-beaten track.”

He added: “I’d pay some bills firstly but I’d buy a new record player because my wife hates my current one, it’s sort of big, blocky and horrible.

“Maybe a couple of records if there’s any change left.”

Thankfully for Anthony, his team of four players fought until the end and they managed to beat off The Chaser, with Anne looking less than impressed at the end of the round.

Despite being one of the best brains in Britain, Anne found herself being caught with 19 seconds remaining and needing to correctly answer four more questions.

Ahead of the final chase, Bradley explained he believed the group would need four pushbacks to succeed – he was also blown away when he correctly guessed their fate.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
