Corrie's Ronnie 'set Ed up to be electrocuted' as fans twig sinister true identity

Coronation Street’s Ed Bailey could be in a whole heap of trouble after being electrocuted last week, as fans think his brother Ronnie is up to no good.

Ed was working on one of the radiators at Debbie Webster’s hotel when he was thrown back by an electrical blast, ending up in hospital with his wife Aggie by his side.

The pair swore revenge on Debbie, with Aggie threatening to bring her solicitor in on things after the Bistro owner refused to apologise and accept liability, though she knew the electrics hadn’t been checked for more than a year.

Earlier in the week, Ronnie had shown a picture of a derelict pub to Ed and Paul, suggesting that they go in on buying it together to redevelop into housing.

But fans have spotted what could be a sinister ulterior motive behind the plans, as Ronnie encouraged Ed to leave Steve’s roofing job in order to head to the hotel to get more cash for the renovations.

Taking to Reddit, one user posted: “So I may be way off about this because I missed the scene when Ed had his accident. Could Ronnie have set him up somehow?

“He was really keen for Ed to leave the roof job at Steve’s house for work at the hotel instead, and he wants money for the renovation of the building he plans to buy. Is it possible he knew the wiring was in a state and saw it as a way to exploit cash from Debbie?”

They added: “I hope I’m wrong because I like Ronnie, but when Ronnie was first introduced Ed wasn’t speaking to him because he was supposed to be a bad influence (encouraging Eds gambling maybe? I don’t quite remember).”

Another social media user quickly replied: “I hope not, it would be nice if there were some people in the show who don’t have dodgy ulterior motives!”

“I was actually thinking that when I wrote my comment, everyone always seems to have some kind of secret plot going on these days!” the original poster replied.

While someone else suggested on Twitter: “Debbie is going to borrow money off Ronnie to pay Ed, isn’t she?” – meaning he could charge a large chunk of interest.

Though someone else disagreed: “Zero chance.”

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV.
