BBC Breakfast Jon Kay fumes he's 'pulling plug' on show as he says co-star 'can suffer'

BBC Breakfast presenter Jon Kay was left fuming on Wednesday (July 20), as he threatened to “pull the plug” on various elements of the programme.

Jon was clearly left unhappy that producers had sent him out as a roving reporter earlier in the week during the hottest temperatures on record, first appearing by the river in Cambridge and then at Droitwich Spa Lido.

Meanwhile, his co-host Nina Warhurst got to remain in the air conditioned BBC studio at Media City.

As the programme was plagued by a host of technical errors on Wednesday morning, with various interviews getting cut off by microphone failures, Jon decided he’d had enough.

Jon was left fuming

He and Nina had turned to reporter Chetan Pathak, who was in place at Brighton & Hove Community Stadium to report on the latest game in the Euro 2022 tournament, where England will soon take on Spain.

Nina explained: “Time to check in with Chetan for the sport. He’s in Brighton for us this morning, ahead of an important game. England will take on Spain in the quarter final of the Euros. Morning, Chetan!”

Chetan then responded: “Morning Nina – if you’re wondering what the noise is in the background, we’ve been talking about the extreme heat so we’ve got industrial sized fans.

Poor Chetan was left to ‘suffer’

“It’s a type of fan we could probably do-” but he was quickly cut off by a failed microphone.

Taking over, Jon said: “I’m sorry, after two days of being in extreme heat with no fan, I’m not having that. I’m pulling the sound on Chetan and he can suffer.

“We’ll pull the fans as well!” he insisted.

Commiserating, Nina said: “We’re not having the best luck, are we, with the microphones this morning? First it was Tim [Muffett], then it was Chetan, but it is a big match that will take place today. History making already, so we’ll look forward to that.”

But despite the errors, fans at home were just enjoying Jon and Nina’s presenting partnership, as one viewer tweeted: “Nina Warhurst and Jon Kay are THE best presenters on @BBCBreakfast. So natural and pleasant. Love them.”

As another penned: “This is my sofa dream team! @BBCBreakfast more Jon & Nina please!!”

“Morning @jonkay01 @NinaWarhurst Looking good today. Have a good day both of you xx,” a third echoed.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
