Since joining Coronation Street in 2021, Bill Fellows has risen to soap fame as Stu Carpenter – but did you know that he was already a huge TV icon before stepping onto the cobbles?
Since making his TV debut in 1982 in Scene as a character called Eric, Bill has appeared in some of the world’s biggest programmes – including an Emmy award winning comedy hit.
From 2020-2021, Bill appeared as George Cartrick in Apple series Ted Lasso, opposite major Hollywood stars including Jason Sudeikis.
That’s not all, as he also played Bernie in the fantasy series Wolfblood between 2012-2013, as well as starring as Joe Burns in an episode of Downton Abbey in 2010.
He also became a children’s TV icon after appearing as Mr.Rivers in CBBC series Byker Grove in 1989, before playing Jerry Jekyll in another popular CBBC show, Julia Jekyll and Harriet Hyde, from 1995-1996.
Bill’s career has also included appearances in huge TV dramas including A Touch Of Frost, Clocking Off, Waking The Dead, Inspector George Gently, Landgirls and Broadchurch.
It seems that he always had his eye on the soaps too, after appearing in a number of rival programmes throughout the decades.
He first appeared in Holby City as Frank Bridger in 2002, before returning seven years later in an entirely new role as Rob Landis in 2009.
That’s not all, as he has also played multiple roles in BBC hospital drama Casualty between 1993-2017, as well as having numerous appearances in Doctors between 2003-2020 too.
With a stellar career like that, it is no surprise that Bill Fellows has been a familiar face on our screens all these years – and time will only tell what lies in store in his latest role, as Stu Carpenter embarks on a mission to find his daughter in Coronation Street.
However, the actor has teased that a big storyline awaits for Stu, previously telling The Metro: “I think it’s going to raise a lot of awareness about something – I can’t give the game away!’
He added: “The audience have known for a while that he’s got some sort of criminal record, but no one knows what that is.
“When it finally does come out it’s a strong story.”
