Duncan James speaks out on pressure of replacing Denise Van Outen's ex on Gogglebox

Duncan James has spoken out about his new job on Celebrity Gogglebox alongside his best friend Denise Van Outen.

The Blue singer has now joined singer Denise on the celebrity edition of the hit Channel 4 show following her split from her ex Eddie Boxshall.

Denise, 48, took to social media back in January to confirm she’d split from the 49-year-old businessman after seven years with him.

The pair had famously appeared on the sofa together during their Gogglebox stint, but when they broke up it left Denise without a telly-watching partner.

Duncan said doing Gogglebox felt “natural” as they’ve been friends for years

Luckily, her best pal Duncan stepped up to replace Eddie and has signed up to do the show with her for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to Daily Star at the TRIC Awards in London, Duncan revealed he felt very much at home doing the show with Denise.

When asked if he felt any pressure as Denise’s replacement, he replied: “No, me and Denise are mates. We’ve been mates for 20 years so it just felt like being at home, really.

“I used to go round her house all the time, really, so it felt quite natural really. I really enjoyed doing it with her.”

However, when asked if he would ever recruit his Blue bandmates for the programme, he admitted they could never do it as their appearance would be ‘too X-rated’.

Duncan was full of praise for Denise as he talked about their Gogglebox antics – before claiming the way Eddie treated her was “really unfair.”

Writing in the Mirror, he claimed Denise is “always” getting him in trouble on the show, and that her “filthy sense of humour” has rubbed off on him.

He even admitted they regularly get told off for making X-rated jokes.

He said: “I love my bestie, Denise van Outen, to absolute bits.

“Since I came out, I’ve been so glad to have her as an ally but she’s ALWAYS getting me in trouble when we film Celebrity Gogglebox.

“Her filthy sense of humour rubs off on me and we regularly get told off for making X-rated jokes.

“Bosses have to spend ages editing our segments before they air so we’re lobbying for a late-night version of the show.

“I reckon we can make it happen too.”

Denise had been with Eddie since 2014, but they split with him admitting to messaging and having phone sex with other women.

She said she was “heartbroken” to find out Eddie had messages and pictures from other women on his iPad last November.

Announcing the split, Denise wrote: “Over the past couple of months, there has been much speculation regarding my relationship with Eddie.

“It saddens me to confirm that we are no longer a couple. I had to make the difficult decision not to continue in our relationship.

“I will always treasure the good times we spent together, and the memories made.

“We ask that you please respect our privacy at this time, especially for our children.”

Denise has now gone public with her new Italian boyfriend, Jimmy Barba after the pair reportedly met via a mutual friend in All Saints singer Shaznay Lewis.

The new couple stepped out together on the red carpet at the 12th annual Grand Prix Ball in June, where they came out holding hands.
