Sarah Harding's devastating final months as Girls Aloud reunite for special Race for Life

The Girls Aloud band members are coming together to run a Race for Life in honour of Sarah Harding, who tragically died in 2021.

In 2020 the singer was told by doctors she wouldn’t live to see her next Christmas, though she battled for another year.

The group disbanded in 2013, but in Sarah’s autobiography Hear Me Out, she revealed that the five band members had a reunion for a secret nostalgic night months before her death.

Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh and Cheryl are set to start the emotional run today, July 24, with the group already sharing their heartfelt messages ahead of the day.

At the age of 39, Sarah died after a year-long battle with breast cancer.

She revealed that she was diagnosed with the disease in August 2020 and died on September 5, 2021.

The disease had spread to other parts of her body, leading to doctors telling her she would not live to see Christmas of 2020.

After her death, bandmates Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle shared tributes to the late musician.

On Instagram, Nicola wrote: “I can’t accept that this day has come. My heart is aching and all day everything we went through together has raced round my mind… a part of me or us isn’t here anymore and it’s unthinkable and painful and utterly cruel.

“Electric girl, you made us. You gave it everything and still with a smile.”

Nadine added: “I am absolutely devastated. I can’t think of words that could possibly express how I feel about this girl and what she means to me.”

The run is taking place in Hyde Park in London, and ahead of the event Cheryl shared a heartfelt message to her followers on Instagram.

She wrote: “Around this time last year when Sarah was really sick, we were all desperately trying to find ways to help her, to comfort her, to do whatever she wanted, you feel so helpless in times like that.

“One of the only things she really wanted was a gala dinner. So while that’s underway and we are doing that, we felt like we can be doing more.”

Kimberley added: “Me and the girls have teamed up with cancer Research UK to raise money for breast cancer research projects and one in particular that Sarah really wanted to help fund.

“There will be a ‘Race for Life For Sarah’ which will take place at Hyde Park on July 24 at 11.30am and everyone is welcome.”

Thousands will be joining them to take part in the event, which aims to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
