Joey Essex was left screaming after he chowed down on so-called British delicacies including cockles, ox tongue and Gentleman’s Relish.
The former TOWIE star has teamed up with Premier Inn to showcase what the UK staycation scene has to offer, getting the help from three guides on his travels.
The 31-year-old headed to Bath to have a look round part of his home country he’d never been to before, and discovered delights including the Frankenstein Museum and Roman Baths, while also having a go at paddleboarding down the river.

One of the guides even supplied Joey with some British delicacies – but it didn’t look as though Joey enjoyed them, as he tried cockles, ox tongue and Gentleman’s Relish, which is anchovy paste.
He told his guide that strange food was no match for him really though, as he’d eaten all sorts on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! back in 2013.
The fun Premier Inn campaign is to encourage Brits to continue with their staycation summer holidays, which were more popular than ever last year due to travel restrictions.
According to research done by Premier Inn, the rise of the staycation is still on the up as a third of Brits claim they would choose the UK as their main holiday destination this year due to travel cancellations and airport chaos.
Further research found that almost three quarters of Brits (74%) believe the public takes the historic sites and landmarks we have for granted.
They include sites such as Edinburgh Castle, Hadrian’s Wall, Bath’s Roman Baths and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
And almost two thirds of Brits (59%) agree that local attractions are the most important factor when deciding upon a UK holiday.
Premier Inn found that a huge number of brits have the added stress of worrying about transport cancellations (67%) and other travel restrictions (52%) too.
A Premier Inn spokesperson said: “We often forget how much beautiful scenery and rich culture we have here in the UK which is right on our doorstep.
“Instead of booking a holiday abroad to the same old Spanish island like every other year, we want Brits to explore what we have right here in the UK and revive the Great British holiday!
“With over 800 Premier Inn hotels across the UK, we make accommodation easier and comfier than ever to complete your UK staycation.”
