Neighbours viewers concerned ending will be a 'let down' as last ever episode looms

Neighbours fans are concerned the finale will be a “let down”.

The special hour-long finale episode of the Australian soap opera will air on Friday (July 29) after 37 years.

Channel 5 said at the time that they decided to drop the continuing drama from their schedules in favourite of “original UK drama”.

However, fans have taken to social media to voice their concerns as the last ever episode air date looms.

Taking to Reddit, one user penned: “Is anyone else worried the ending will be a let down?

“Since it was announced it will end I was certain they’d make the finale amazing.

“But it’s really getting close now and there’s no sign of things turning into the heartwarming, community-filled episode I’m hoping for.

“I’m genuinely worried it’ll be a bit of a dud.

“Episodes right now should be filled with the light stuff Neighbours has always excelled at – characters all hanging out together, having barbecues, pool fun, dinners together, reminiscing about good times, reaffirming good relationships etc.

Karl and Susan should be getting the blue box out, Paul and Terese may as well be back together already, David (even though I’m not a fan) should be out of prison etc.”

Harold Bishop was believed to be dead on two separate occasions but came back on both counts

Others agreed with the message, with another fan writing: “Yes! I’m finding it very odd that storylines aren’t wrapping up yet. I was expecting either what you’ve said, or some massive interesting storyline by now. It’s all very dragged out and boring honestly.”

A third person said: “Yes I’m getting a bit worried about that too. Hopefully all the major storylines like David in Prison, Paul and Terese, Clive and Jane’s drama, will come to some conclusion then we can have a great heartwarming finale. I’ve been disappointed with Harold’s return so far.”

While a fourth penned: “Agreed, it seems a bit underwhelming so far.”

In the advert for Friday’s finale, Harold Bishop, reflecting on his time in Erinsborough, says: “It certainly feels like the end of an era. It all goes so quickly.”

The short preview also teases familiar faces from days gone by returning to Ramsay Street.

Scott and Charlene Robinson (Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue) are among those seen, as well as Joel Samuels (Daniel McPherson).

Meanwhile, Toadie Rebecchi (Ryan Moloney) appears to make the decision to leave Ramsay Street, but assures Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne) that they’ll always be in each other’s lives.

“Always!” replies an emotional Susan.

Bosses have remained tight-lipped about exactly what’s set to happen in the final episode, but have revealed that it will be “gripping and emotional”.

Neighbours: The Finale airs on Friday, July 29 at 9pm on Channel 5
