Love Island's Liam hits out at ITV bosses as he admits he felt 'controlled'

Love Island’s Liam Llewellyn has opened up about his experience on the hugely popular ITV2 dating show as he confessed that he couldn’t cope with his “actions being controlled” by producers.

As excited fans of the reality show anxiously wait for the grand final on Monday (August 1), the Welsh student has shared the real reason why he left the show just six days into the eighth series.

During his time on the show, the 23-year-old coupled up with Gemma Owen who sadly kicked the academic to the curb after Italian stallion Davide Sanclimenti entered the villa.

But the telly bosses didn’t let him stay single for long, as he later went on to go on a date with two new bombshells Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Afia Tonkmore.

Now, Liam has revealed what it was like to be on the show knowing that he was being filmed 24/7 as he explained the show is “not natural at all.”

Speaking to MailOnline, he admitted: “I thought I was going to have the summer that everyone dreams of but now I’m living with no regrets, I took a chance but I realised I can’t live on TV.

“I was expected to do things for a TV show and I couldn’t be myself. I didn’t want to do it. It is a TV show and it is produced. It’s not natural at all.”

He went on: “In my head I was not in the right position to take part in a TV show because that’s what you’re doing. You have to go on dates, do challenges, and you’re not in control of any of it.”

“I had loads of meetings with the execs, the series editor, and professional physiologists but after a couple of days of feeling the way I did, I made the decision on my own behalf that it wasn’t right for me to carry on.”

When Liam decided to leave the series, he summoned his fellow contestants around the fire pit to explain his decision.

Once the contestants all gathered around the fire pit, he said: “Obviously we all came here for the same sort of reason, but I haven’t been giving 100 per cent Liam. I know what 100 per cent Liam is and I’m miles off that.

“Trying to find someone you leave the villa with that you love, that’s the goal. But when you’re not feeling that, it makes it a very hard sort of time to find that.

“I’ve been thinking long and hard, it isn’t spur of the moment, so I’ve made a decision I’m going to leave the villa.”
