His parents, Hollie and Paul Battersbee had campaigned for weeks, including an application to the United Nations committee to request that the ending of his treatment be postponed.

Now, Baroness Brady has paid tribute to young Archie as well as praising his parents for their dedication to their son.

Writing in her column for The Sun, the Vice-Chairman of West Ham United penned: “No mother could have done more, Hollie has barely left his side for eight weeks, sleeping on a chair next to his hospital bed,” before adding that “all of us” had been praying for a miracle during Archie’s treatment.

“I admire Hollie for the tenacious battle that she has fought on Archie’s behalf, what a tremendous mother she is, and I wish her strength over the coming weeks and months.”

Confirming Archie’s devastating death, Hollie said: “It’s with my deepest sympathy and sadness to tell you Archie passed at 12.15 today (June 6).

“And can I just tell you, I’m the proudest mum in the whole world.

“Such a beautiful little boy and he fought right until the very end and I’m so proud to be his mum.”

Hours before Archie’s tragic death, Hollie said she was “broken” after an “awful” couple of weeks fighting to keep his life support machines turned on.

When asked if there was anything more she was able to do, the distraught mother responded: “No, I’ve done everything that I promised my little boy I’d do and I’ve done it.”

His parents had attempted to have him moved from hospital to a hospice but a ruling at the High Court concluded it would not be in his best interests.

Medical staff believed that Archie was brain-stem dead and no further medical intervention could help the youngster.
