Strictly's Ellie Taylor shuts down Ranvir Singh over curse probe after resurfaced skit

Stand-up comic Ellie Taylor hit back at Ranvir Singh as she asked about how her husband feels about her joining Strictly Come Dancing following her sketch about the dreaded TV curse.

During Tuesday’s visit to the ITV studios, the 44-year-old broadcaster welcomed viewers back to the Lorraine show as she announced the ninth contestant to join the hugely popular dance competition this year.

With just months to go before the BBC One series returns to our screens with a handful of glitter and glamour, the actress shared her nerves about stepping foot in the famous ballroom for the first time.

But years before she signed up to the show, the comic poked fun at the infamous Strictly curse in her sketch on her show The Mash Report.

As Ranvir welcomed her onto the show, she couldn’t help but ask how her husband feels about her now taking part on the show and the possibility of falling under the TV curse.

The TV presenter told viewers at home: “We couldn’t show a clip of you on The Mash Report talking about Strictly a few years ago because it was very, very saucy.

“Can I just urge you to go on YouTube and find this clip of Ellie because it is very, very funny. But you talk about the Strictly curse, and it’s absolutely hilarious, right?

“Now you’re on Strictly a few years later… have you had this chat with your husband? Was he alright about it?”

However, Ellie seemed less than impressed that the former Strictly star had brought up her old joke, as she quickly shut down all notion of the curse on the show.

She replied with: “It’s a wild thing to think isn’t it but The Mash Report is a satirical show, you know it’s written by writers and I play a character.”

It was at this point that Ranvir jumped in with her own experience from being on Strictly back in 2020, where she confessed that Ellie’s jokes were quite close to the truth.

She chimed in with: “I mean I’ve been on Strictly and it was pretty close to the truth, I’m not going to lie.”

She was flooded with congratulatory messages online
