RuPaul’s net worth – and how much he earns per episode of Drag Race

RuPaul Charles, who is known mononymously as RuPaul, is an American drag queen, musician and television judge behind the popular TV show, RuPaul’s Drag Race.

He was born in San Diego, California, on November 16, 1960 and he kick started his drag career in the 1980’s, later starring in the music video for Love Shack by the B-52s.

Over the years, the Drag Race franchise has developed beyond the original American series, with spin-offs including Drag Race UK, All Stars and Secret Celebrity Drag Race.

Secret Celebrity Drag Race season two will air on August 12 and in the series, celebrities will team up with former Drag Race queens as they undergo a drag transformation and battle it out to become “America’s Next Celeb Drag Superstar”.

RuPaul will be joined on the judges panel by Michelle Visage, Ross Mathews and Carlson Kressley.

But how much does RuPaul make per Drag Race episode and what is his net worth? Here’s everything you need to know.

The Drag Race franchise has boomed over the years, with RuPaul taking home a hefty sum at the end of each season.

In 2013, it was reported that the Drag Race judge was taking home $50,000 (£41k) per episode in a season of Drag Race.

If RuPaul was to take home the same wage packet today, which is unlikely given the fact that the show has grown in popularity, he would be taking home around $800,000 (£653k) per 16 episode season.

In the latest series of Drag Race USA, which aired earlier this year, winner Willow Pill took home $150,000 (£122k) – the largest cash prize in the history of the show.

In the UK version of Drag Race, a cash prize is not offered to the winner as the series is produced by the BBC, which is funded with public money from the TV license fee.

Instead, the UK winner is “whisked off to Hollywood to star in her very own digital series produced by the hit-making team that created RuPaul’s Drag Race.”

Now that the Drag Race judge has a constant stream of income due to the multiple shows he takes part in each year, it’s safe to say that RuPaul is not short of cash.

According to celebritynetworth.com, RuPaul has a net worth of $60 million(£49.6m) thanks to the Drag Race franchise, his music career and various modelling contracts.

RuPaul is now widely considered to be the most commercially successful drag queen in the United States, with hit singles including Sissy That Walk, Cover Girl and Call Me Mother.
