X Factor: Celebrity star hits out at show which was 'elite' ahead of 'Channel 5 return'

Samira Mighty has revealed her views on The X Factor, claiming the show no longer has the star power it once had when it first broadcast across the nation.

The reality star, 26, turned singer appeared on the Celebrity edition of the ITV programme back in 2019 with her former Love Island co-stars Eyal Booker, Wes Nelson and Zara McDermott as the group No Love Lost.

Despite all three boasting powerful vocals, the group finished in eighth place, with TOWIE star Megan McKenna taking the winning spot.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, the I Love Your Smile songstress said: “It’s so nuts, it was so elite.

“I miss back in the day, everything was so A-list.”

Discussing her thoughts on the music industry, Samira went on to add: “There are so many new artists and loads of things, it’s more open now.

“Whenever anyone asks me ‘who are your icons, who do you look up to?’ I’m always like ‘Amy Winehouse, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie’, all those kinds of people.

“I just admired their confidence, they didn’t give a sh*t.

“They would go on the stage, wear what they want to wear and be who they want to be.

“I think the music industry now is obviously amazing but I struggle to see icons.”

She continued: “I always look at things back in the day, MTV Awards, Hip Hop Awards, even people on the red carpet.

“Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake full denim matching outfits, give us a bit of that.”

Despite finally making a name for herself in the music industry, Samira explained that she wasn’t nervous about sharing her track, saying: “There’s adults, children, older people, anyone will love the song.

“I think it was just a given because everyone knows it, it’s such a nice summer vibe after the past couple of years we’ve had and I think it’s nice to have a nice message in a song and also be able to dance to it.

“I was a little bit nervous about going into the industry but this is something I’ve always wanted to do and I feel like I’m meant to be doing it, Im not too sceptical about it.”

Simon Cowell is reportedly “in talks” to relaunch The X Factor on Channel 5.

A TV insider said: “As soon as X Factor was up for grabs, there was interest from a number of the networks.

“X Factor is one of the most iconic shows in TV history, so it’s no surprise lots of channels were keen.”

“The production company had their pick. After a lot of meetings, execs decided to go with Channel 5.”
