Coronation Street actor Duggie Brown has died aged 82.
The legendary actor played the role of Ted Spear on the ITV soap at the beginning of this year and was introduced as the character Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) hit with her car on her way back from a New Year’s Eve party.
He also played two other roles in the soap prior to Ted’s arrival, starring as George Freeman in the late 90s and the husband of Rita’s friend, Bernie Cooper in 2004.
His other acting roles include BBC Drama series House of Cards, Channel 4’s Brookside and long-running ITV series Fat Friends.
While having a decorated career as an actor, he was also an established comedian.
Recognised widely for his comedy, he performed on various entertainment shows including The Good Old Days between 1971 to 1980.
Tributes to the legendary have come pouring in, with several of Duggie’s famous pals and fans taking to social media to share their sadness over the news.
Tom Cannon, who is one half of iconic duo Cannon and Ball, took to Twitter and penned a heartfelt tribute to the star, writing: “Really sad to hear about the passing of Duggie Brown. Rest in peace pal, what a funny, funny man – thinking of all your friends and family.”
Ventriloquist Steve Hewlett wrote: “I will treasure all our conversations but here’s one I can share x Rest in Peace dearest Duggie Brown,” alongside a link to his Eyes And Teeth podcast where he interviewed Duggie as a guest.
Duggie’s friend Neil Hurst said: “Beyond sad to hear that my ol’ pal Duggie Brown has passed away. One of my very first telly jobs was with Duggie back in 1997 and I was lucky to appear in so many shows with him since. Genuinely one of the nicest and funniest guys in the business. Sad day.”
Duggie is the brother of Corrie actress Lynne Perrie who played Ivy Tisley for 23 years from 1971 to 1994.
The iconic actress and singer sadly passed away aged 74 in 2006 after suffering a stroke.
