Gareth Gates paid an emotional tribute to his “big brother” Darius Campbell Danesh hours after the singer was found dead at his US apartment.
On Monday afternoon, the Pop Idol singer’s family confirmed the tragic news on social media after he was found unresponsive at his home five days ago (August 11).
Police have confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances when he was found where he was pronounced dead by the local medical examiners office.

Now, his former music contestant Gareth has shared a touching tribute to him alongside a sweet throwback snap online.
He wrote: “I can’t quite believe the news of my dear friend Darius passing. I’m heartbroken.
“Darius took me under his wind during out time in Pop Idol, like a big brother, always looking out for me and for that I thank you my friend.
“I will miss our chats. He was one of the most beautiful, intelligent and gentle souls I was lucky enough to know, a soul that lit up every room.
“Good by my friend. Forever in my heart” which he signed off with a kiss.
It was at this point that his loyal legion of fans shared their heartache for the star as they flooded to the comments section to pass on messages of condolences online.
One user penned: “Omg [crying emoji] no way. That’s such sad news! RIP Darius [heart emoji].”
Another added: “So sorry [crying emoji] very sad news. Thinking of you x,” as a third viewer chimed in with: “I’m so sorry for your loss…… Terribly sad news [crying emoji].”
“So sorry I loved you and Darius. Both were so talent. Rip Darius so sad he died so you he has so much to achieve. Heartbroken [heartbroken emoji, crying emoji].”

It comes after his family released a lengthy statement confirming the devastating news to the late singers adoring fans.
It read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh.
“We ask that you kindly respect our wishes for privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with the tragic loss of our son and brother.”
