American horror franchise Final Destination has become wildly known for its gruesomely horrifying deaths, unexpected twists and terrifying realism.
In all five movies, the story focuses on a group of people who were destined to die during a specific event.
But due to the protagonist’s premonition that occurs at the beginning of the film, they manage to change the narrative to help themselves and others escape death.

However, although it seems like a good idea at first, death- which is heavily personified in the movies- comes back to haunt everyone who was supposed to meet their fate.
So to celebrate the release of the fourth instalment, Daily Star has taken a look at the most brutal Final Destination deaths that occurred in the franchise.
Burnt on tanning bed – Final Destination 3
Ashlyn Halperin was the happy-go-lucky character who faced death on a tanning bed in Final Destination 3.
Due to the fact that she died during a premonition, it was unfortunately Ashlyn’s time to go later on in the movie.
Excited to top up her tan on a tanning bed alongside her friend Ashley, the two girls are none the wiser to the fact that Ashley left her iced beverage on a table, unaware that the VAC machine controlling the tanning beds are underneath.
As the ladies decide to turn the heat up, the ice beverage starts to drip into the machine under it which causes the machine to malfunction.
The girls soon find themselves trapped inside their tanning beds unable to get out but as the temperature begins to rise and with no nowhere to go, the pair are soon burnt to death.
Escalator death –The Final Destination
The horrific escalator death in The Final Destination has become known as one of the most gruesome ways characters were tragically killed off in “death’s design”.
Just before the escalator ate someone alive, a movie theatre explosion took place which some cinema goers managed to escape from.
The resulting catastrophe that took place in the cinema also made one of the escalators in the mall unstable, when people tried to make their way out of the complex.
This lead to a rather disturbing death which saw one of the characters being swallowed whole by an escalator.
Rollercoaster tragedy- Final Destination 3
The opening scene of Final Destination 3 began with a massacre which saw several characters fall to their death while on a rollercoaster at an amusement park.
While enjoying a night out with her friends at the theme park, protagonist Wendy Christensen had a premonition that the Devil’s Flight rollercoaster could be her last ride.
The dreaded rollercoaster already had a bad hydraulics leak but was somehow exacerbated by a video camera.
As things begin to spiral out of control with those on the ride noticing something is clearly wrong, the rollercoaster cars begin to detach themselves and those on the ride end up dangling to their deaths.
Aeroplane annihilation – Final Destination
The first Final Destination film which was released in the year 2000 opened with a terrifying plane massacre scene.
The opening sequence was a graphic imagining of what might take place in a mid-flight disaster as main character Alex Browning saw the accident that was to come.
As the plane took off, it was met with numerous malfunctions which lead to an open fuselage, mid-air fires, and ultimately a flying inferno that ultimately ends up crashing.
In the premonition all passengers were burnt alive in the plane.
Timber death – Final Destination 2
Following the success of the first film, Final Destination 2 producers had to ensure viewers were just as excited as they were with the last.
The opening scene to the sequel began on the highway of route 23 with a truck carrying a number of logs which ends up causing the main accident.
As one of the chains that tied the logs to the vehicle becomes loose and it falls down onto the road, it shaves a car’s roof off and a person inside the car is also killed as a result.
A dozen-car pileup soon exudes along with plenty of unexpected and gruesome deaths along the way.
Decapitation in elevator – Final Destination 2
The decapitation scene in Final Destination 2 came as an unexpected surprise for viewers and ended in terrifying results.
Characters Nora Carpenter and Eugene Dix enter the elevator with no understanding that it could be the last time they go anywhere together.
As they walk into the lift, a man carrying prosthetic limbs is also in the elevator.
But when Nora bends down to pick up her phone which dropped on the elevator floor, her hair is caught on one of the gentlemen’s faux limbs.
In a fit of panic, Nora tries to release herself from the grip and when the doors of the lift opens, she tries her best to quickly escape.
However things don’t go to plan and her head is caught between the doors and it is soon chopped off as a result.
