Lizzie Cundy slams England squad wearing Pride armbands ahead of Qatar World Cup

Lizzie Cundy has criticised the England team ahead of the upcoming World Cup taking place between November and December in Qatar.

Currently, the squad captained by Harry Kane frequently wear rainbow armbands during matches to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community.

However, male homosexuality is illegal in Qatar under Sharia law with blokes facing up to three years in prison, whereas the government do not recognise same-sex marriages or civil partnerships.

They also do not allow people in Qatar to campaign for LGBTQ+ rights.

Lizzie, 54, has hit out at this decision revealing it makes no sense to her.

Taking to Twitter in view of her 52,600 followers, the original WAG penned: “Quite extraordinary. The England football squad will wear rainbow-coloured armbands and take the knee but they will still fly to Qatar to play for the World Cup trophy.

“Whereas #Djokovic will miss out playing at the US Open because he is sticking up for his principles #justsaying.”

Her fans appeared to be in agreement with her as many flocked to the replies section to echo her thoughts, with one saying: “Brilliantly put!”

“It really does boggle the mind,” added a second.

Before a third commented: “This! Just this! Nothing else needed,” alongside a clapping emoji.

Lizzie has previously spoken out against the footballing industry, explaining to the Daily Star that bosses need to do more to look after players.

She said: “It’s sadly becoming not so much the beautiful game anymore.

“There should be more done and the management or football clubs need to take more responsibility for the protection of the footballers and the fans.”

She went on to add: “It’s so awful that it’s got personal, but it’s just a minority of the fans that ruin the name of football.

“The majority of fans are great but this is going away a step too far and it is becoming personal, it’s totally wrong and I’m sorry but the clubs themselves, the management need to do more to protect the players.

“[They] really need to look into what sort of fans they’re having at their clubs who could even think of doing this sort of thing.”

England will face Iran on the second day of the World Cup tournament on November 21 as part of their Group B fixture, before facing Wales on November 29.
