Mrs Brown's Boys' Brendan O'Carroll confirms mini series to celebrate 10th anniversary

Mrs Brown’s Boys creator Brendan O’Carroll has revealed how he is finally celebrating the show’s tenth anniversary with a new mini series – two years late.

The controversial BBC comedy launched in 2011.

However because of covid, all Brendan’s plans to mark the show’s birthday had to be canned.

But now the Irish actor, who plays Mammy Agnes Brown, has the green light to go ahead. He said: “The BBC have been very generous to me.

Filming is set to begin on the Christmas special and the other episodes which are due to air next year.

The news will thrill fans of Mrs Brown’s Boys.

There has not been a full series of the award winning comedy since 2013 – just Christmas and New Year specials.

The news comes after Maria Brown star Fiona O’Carroll appeared to confirm back in May that the mini series was no longer going ahead.

She said: “Well, you know what this industry is like. There is lots of talk and lots of talk and until it is happening you will never really know.”

The actress continued: “We were supposed to be doing a mini series this year but, unfortunately, due to various different reasons it didn’t happen. So, there is talk of it happening next year, a possible mini series.”

While it has an abundance of die-hard fans, it also has just as many naysayers.

At the start of the year, some viewers begged the BBC to “cancel” Mrs Brown’s Boys following the New Year’s Day episode.

“Literally the worst show ever – cancel it,” one person said.

While another, referencing covid, said: “Sooner catch Happy New Year’s Omicron than watch Mrs Brown’s Boys!”

However the New Year’s Day special managed to attract a wealth of viewers.
