'Sunmi makes spectacular UK return with mega hits in tireless K-Pop concert'

Sunmi made a spectacular return to the UK with her Good Girl Gone Mad tour, following her successful stop in London on her Warning tour in 2019.

Since then, Sunmi has been unable to perform for her international fans due to the Covid pandemic – and the excitement for the K-Pop superstar to be back in the UK was obvious, with eager fans setting up base outside London’s Troxy at 6.30am to get the coveted spot in front of the stage.

And it seems the excitement was mutual, as Sunmi kicked things off with three of her most popular songs – Siren, LALALAY and pporappippam.

She explained that she wanted to start the show with high energy – and she did just that.

Sunmi performed a mega 21-song setlist at London’s Troxy

Performed with backing dancers, the three opening songs let fans know exactly what to expect for the rest of the almost two hour-long show.

With dazzling outfits – first a denim minidress, then a cute skirt and corset top combo, and third a patterned trouser and top co-ord – and plenty of different props, there was no detail Sunmi hadn’t thought of.

The first act provided a bit of everything, with the sultry sounds of Siren, the calming pop vibes of pporappippam, bright and airy SUNNY and the moody tones of Borderline.

After a quick outfit change, Sunmi returned for a more intimate second act, with fewer flashy dance routines and more focus on her and the audience.

‘Bass-Sunmi’ made a return to the stage for a handful of songs

Introducing the different sound for the middle section of the concert, Sunmi performed Gotta Go, from the soundtrack of South Korean web series XX.

The powerful performance was one of the highlights from the whole show, but Sunmi gave fans a chance to catch their breath as she moved forward, slowing things down as she brought out a mic stand.

With just her vocal talent being more than enough to keep fans entertained, Sunmi performed 1/6 and Childhood.

Afterwards, she seemed to become nervous, as she spoke of how her fans – known as Miya-ne – had been wanting to see a return of “Bass Sunmi”.

Sunmi performed tracks such as Siren, Noir, pporappippam and Gashina

Sunmi debuted in 2007 as part of girl group Wonder Girls, and later rejoined the group in 2015, with Sunmi playing the bass guitar.

Not one to disappoint her adoring audience, Sunmi performed What The Flower and Noir with her bass guitar.

She admitted she’d been somewhat apprehensive, and that it was quite difficult to play and sing at the same time – but the performances had been nothing short of confident, and the audience had been hooked.

Addressing the crowd in English, Sunmi explained that her songs were all very personal to her, and if fans wanted to know where she was in her life, they just needed to listen to the lyrics.

Rounding off the middle act, Sunmi’s dancers returned for a truly show-stopping performance of her most recent comeback, Heart Burn.

Sunmi’a fans – Miya-ne – lapped up every moment of the performance

Singing as her dancers used traditional Korean fans as visual aides, fans were transported to what felt like a sort of burlesque show for a moment.

And after a short Moulin Rouge themed break, Sunmi returned for the final act of the show – and the most powerful.

Performing songs including Oh Sorry Ya, the sizzling TAIL, and unforgettable anthems Heroine and Gashina, Sunmi made sure to close the show out just as strong as it started.

With a whopping 21 songs on the set list, props, choreography and outfit changes, you would be forgiven for expecting Sunmi to tire, even just a little bit.

But she performed each song with the same vitality as the first on the set list.

Sunmi had the entire venue shaking with Burn, as she brought a huge dance party to Troxy with those in the standing sections jumping along with her.

Sunmi’s two-hour performance was never boring and sadly flew by

And as Sunmi said her sad goodbyes after performing Gashina, fans chanted for her to return.

Of course she did, with one of her most popular tracks – You can’t sit with us.

Hitting the stage in tour merch for the encore, Sunmi had the entire audience singing along as they enjoyed her final song.

Luckily, for fans wanting even more, Sunmi promised she would return in the future with another world tour.

And despite being almost two hours long, the concert flew by in the blink of an eye – which was perfect proof of Sunmi’s star power.

With Sunmi still set to perform in other cities in Europe before flying to North America and home to South Korea, her international fans are well and truly in for a treat.
