This Morning fans beg for host shake-up as Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield return

Viewers of This Morning have said the show’s part-time hosts, Ruth Langsford and Rylan Clark, should take over main presenting duties amid calls for a show shake-up.

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield are at the helm of the ITV daytime show, with Ruth and Rylan recently stepping in to cover their absence for a week.

However, fans have described Holly and Phil as “well past their sell-by date” after the pair had launched a publicity blitz for their return to the show following their summer break.

Their stand-ins were so popular with viewers that ITV bosses are reportedly under pressure to get rid of the regular duo.

One viewer typed: “Ruth and Rylan were my favourite couple over the summer break, then Vernon and Josie as he teased her so much. Get rid of Holly and Phil who are boring!!!”

Another wrote on social media: “Ruth and Rylan should do it all the time. Phil and Holly think it’s all about them. Will miss not seeing them. Couldn’t they have done next week.”

A third tweeted: “Ruth and Rylan, far better than Lord and Lady Phil and Holly who are well past their sell-by date.”

A source close to the show also added: “You do have to wonder what Holly and Phil made of Ruth and Rylan’s popularity. The viewing figures were great, as was the social media interaction, which is important to ITV.

“People around the building are laughing at the irony of Ruth being more popular than Phil, especially after the history between them, and more so Eamonn.”

In 2020, ITV axed Ruth and husband Eamonn Holmes, both 62, from This Morning, where they hosted the Friday programme and were also holiday cover for Willoughby and Schofield.

ITV insiders say that the viewing figures for Ruth and Rylan were more impressive than Holly and Phil. Latest viewing figures for This Morning are not publicly available yet.
