GMB's Susanna Reid praises King Charles' 'olive branch' to Harry and Meghan in speech

Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid has claimed His Majesty, King Charles III, has offered an “olive branch” to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in his address to the nation.

King Charles III addressed the nation on Friday evening (September 9), following the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II on September 8 at the age of 96.

In His Majesty’s address, King Charles III explained the changes that would be taking place in the palace, including Prince William and Kate taking on the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales.

The King also stated: “I want to also express my love to Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.”

During a one-off Saturday edition of ITV talk show Good Morning Britain, presenter Susanna Reid reflected on King Charles III’s speech to the nation.

She commented that The King’s address gave an “olive branch” to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and that he did not want to have a “divide” between them and the Royal Family.

Susanna said: “an olive branch to Prince Harry and Meghan.

“The King expressed his love for both of them in his televised address.”

She added: “He mentioned Harry and Meghan, he isn’t having this divide.

“He’s expressing his love and allowing them to do what they want to do.”

Presenter Ben Shepherd also reflected on The King’s address and the new titles given to Prince William and Kate, saying: “William and Kate have become Prince and Princess of Wales.”

Speaking about the history associated with the title of Princess of Wales, he added: “Kate will be the first to use the title since Diana.”

During his address to the nation, King Charles III also spoke about the impact of the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, saying: “We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother.

“I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”

Broadcasters have announced changes to their schedules, as people continue to mourn the death of Britain’s longest reining monarch, with channels airing continuous news coverage and tribute programmes.

ITV also announced that a one-off Saturday edition of Good Morning Britain would air today (September 10), with Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard providing continuous news coverage.

Viewers took to social media to praise the presenter’s coverage, with one saying: “I was very confused with what day it was when I turned on the TV today @GMB @susannareid100 @benshephard @Lauratobin1 but am very happy to see you all on a Saturday.”

A second added: “GMB Kate Garraway shows her professionalism on TV today. Her reports are so detailed and interesting. A true professional.”
