Katie Price and Peter Andre’s rocky romance – chaotic wedding to bitter divorce

Katie Price and Peter Andre became one of the most high-profile couples in showbiz, but their limelight marriage ended in tatters.

The reality stars met as contestants in the I’m A Celebrity jungle back in 2004, and sparks flew between the pair despite Katie having a boyfriend at the time, Scott Sullivan.

Glamour model Katie and pop star Peter were seen flirting with each other on camera and even shared a hammock one night on the ITV show.

Shortly after their Aussie jungle adventure, Katie and Peter became a couple and got hitched a year later in 2005, with a fairytale wedding to celebrate their soon-to-be-doomed love story.

Daily Star took a dive into the infamous Katie and Peter love story to mark what would have been their wedding anniversary on Saturday (September 10).

Fairytale wedding

Katie and Peter got married at Highclere Castle in 2005

Katie and Peter got married at a lavish ceremony at the fancy Highclere Castle in Hampshire, which is where Downton Abbey was filmed.

The lavish wedding was, quite literally, straight out of a fairytale as Katie rocked up in a Cinderella carriage pulled by six white horses.

The bride-to-be looked every bit the princess in a bright pink satin wedding dress with an epic seven-metre train and a giant sparkling crown to match, with her hair tied up in a beehive bun.

Peter didn’t miss the memo either, because he turned up in an all-white tuxedo lined with Swarovski crystals.

The smitten pair even sported matching fake tans before they said ‘I do’; Katie even claimed Peter got hair extensions for the big day.

The star-studded ceremony had a guest list boasting the likes of Charlotte Church, Wayne and Coleen Rooney and Paul Gascoigne.

In keeping with the theme, bridesmaids carried pink bouquets and wore strapless dresses with glittery headbands.

Guests were late – including Katie herself

However, the day didn’t come without its fair share of drama because the ceremony didn’t get started until 90 minutes after it was supposed to.

Katie was late to the wedding and guests got stuck in traffic as a tanker had started leaking nearby, so cars had to wait for police and firefighters to patch things up.

When the wedding finally began, it was interrupted when the portaloos arrived at the venue, prompting cheers from guests who had been waiting to use the toilet.

Later on, proceedings were paused once more as the members of Liberty X turned up late, but eventually Katie and Peter said ‘I do’.

Their first dance was A Whole New World

Guests tucked into a lavish offering of lobster served by opera-singing waiters before heading off to the reception at a huge marquee boasting a 10-foot chandelier, bay trees and flower-covered thrones.

Keeping to their fairytale theme, Katie and Peter picked their own version of A Whole New World from Disney’s Aladdin.

The newlyweds had reportedly signed a whopping 1.75million exclusive deal with a glossy mag to cover the wedding, which was shrouded in secrecy at the time.

Katie later admitted she didn’t enjoy the day given the restrictions and the postnatal depression she suffered after the birth of their son Junior three months prior.

She told Loose Women in 2017: “When I look back at it, I didn’t enjoy the day.

“One, I had postnatal depression and also because we did it for a magazine I wasn’t allowed to be in certain places in case someone got a picture.

“It was that extravagant – I remember people just chucking Swarovski crystals onto the tables. We had a carriage, we had a tunnel, special lighting, pink carpet… I mean, what didn’t we have?

“[But] I didn’t see it! Because of doing the photos I didn’t even see all of the wedding. I enjoyed marrying him, but I didn’t get to enjoy the wedding.”

Bitter split

It began like a fairytale, but it all ended in heartbreak four years later as Katie and Peter split in 2009.

It came after Katie gave birth to their second child, daughter Princess, in 2007, and a month after she suffered a tragic miscarriage 10 weeks into her pregnancy.

The separation was a bitter affair with Katie accusing Peter of not liking her party-loving lifestyle and Peter refusing to reveal why they split but hinting it was because Katie was unfaithful to him, which she has always strongly denied.

Katie had a black cross tattooed over the tattoo she had of Peter’s name, and Peter removed his tattoo of Katie’s name from his ring finger.

In 2012 Katie sued Peter for leaking details about her private life.

Later that year, Katie claimed Peter was not letting her see their children over Christmas, tweeting: “I HATE him so much. I wish people knew what he is really like!”

Katie has also said that Peter believed she was cheating on him with her horse trainer Andrew Gould, which she has denied.

It reportedly took just over a minute for the High Court judge to finalise their divorce in London in 2009.

She went on to marry to MMA fighter Alex Reid, for just one year from 2010 to 2011, before marrying Kieran Hayler from 2012 to 2019, with whom she has two children, Bunny and Jet.

Katie has become engaged to Love Island star Carl Woods.

Peter went on to marry NHS doctor Emily in 2015 and they have two children together, Millie and Theo, with Emily as a stepmother to Junior and Princess. They live in Surrey.
