K-Pop girl group LOONA stopped off at London’s O2 Academy Brixton as part of their first world tour – LOONATHEWORLD – and brought a few hours of fun when (most of) the country was mourning Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
Sadly, three members – Choerry, Chuu and Haseul – were absent due to health reasons, while Yeojin spent most of the concert sat down.
Despite just nine of the members being present – Vivi, Yves, JinSoul, Kim Lip, Heejin, Hyunjin, Go Won, Olivia Hye and Yeojin – the concert was lively from start to finish.

It was a refreshing change to see the fans – known as Orbits – dancing and enjoying the concert for real, rather than filming every moment through phone screens and causing everyone behind them to strain their necks.

The crowd was a swimming pool of multi-coloured lights from fans waving Loona’s majestic lightstick, with each colour corresponding with one of the 12 members.
It was clear the fans had been eagerly anticipating the concert – the first time Loona performed in the UK since their debut in August 2018 – which may explain the booing when a voice over requested a moment of respect to mark The Queen’s death.

The Brixton venue was a perfect choice with its sloped floor, meaning even those at the back got an almost unobstructed view of their favourite group.
Kicking things off with So What, eight of the nine present members gave a dynamic performance of one of the group’s most popular songs, while Yeojin could be seen singing from her stool.
Heat, the English-language Star, and Butterfly – which is perhaps LOONA’s most well-known song – followed, before two unit stages.

The group’s diverse back catalogue meant the pace of the concert was never stagnant, with all of their title tracks – So What, Butterfly, Flip That, Why Not?, PTT (Paint The Town) and Hi High – included on the set list.
LOONA also performed songs including Dance On My Own, POSE, WOW and Playback.
With a range of styles, the 19-song set list allowed LOONA to showcase what they’re known for best – intricate choreography, light vocals and their unique personalities.

Each act of the concert was separated by cute video footage of the members showing off their special skills in a “LOONA’s Got Talent” style of show.
Unfortunately, the planned breaks weren’t the only pauses in the performance, as a number of fans had to be removed from the front of the audience after feeling unwell.
The members on stage showed real concern for their fans though, and regularly spoke to the audience via a translator throughout the concert.

They mentioned how tired they were, but that they were determined to give the best performance they could.
Sadly, the fatigue was visible at points, with the group’s choreography not quite as tight or as in-sync as they usually deliver.
But considering the year LOONA has had, there was no wonder they were feeling tired.
The group kicked off their year by participating on music survival show Queendom 2, on which they came second, and then went straight into promoting their next comeback Flip That.

Then just a few months later they started their world tour with 14 dates in North America, before heading to Europe days later for dates in Warsaw, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris and then London.
The group would then return to South Korea for two planned concerts in Seoul on October 15 and 16 before hopefully being given time to rest up and recover from a taxing tour.
Regardless of any blips in the concert, LOONAVERSE in London was one of the best – and definitely the most fun – K-Pop concerts we at Daily Star have ever attended.
