Strictly's Helen Skelton had to be 'stitched into dress' after embarrassing wardrobe malfunction

Strictly Come Dancing recruit Helen Skelton suffered an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction on the show and was “stitched into her dress” live on air.

On Thursday night, ballroom fans tuned in to the latest instalment of the popular BBC One spin-off show Strictly: It Takes Two.

Former dancing pro Janette Manrara welcomed viewers back onto the blue sofa where she caught up with three couples onto the show to discuss how their training had been going so far.

Joining the 38-year-old on the show was the Blue Peter alumni who revealed that she suffered an awkward wardrobe blunder just minutes before she was due to take to the stage.

During the candid interview, the mum-of-three confessed that she had slipped on her skirt during the dress rehearsal run through.

As she gushed over the impressive wardrobe team, the TV presenter told viewers: “The glam team and the wardrobe team are incredible. I was being stitched into that costume because I tripped over my dress in rehearsal.

“So, I was being stitched into that as everybody was sat there on air and the girls are just amazing, so talented, so calm. Making that beautiful costume with minutes to spare.”

Luckily, the Countryfile presenter managed to perform in the beautiful aqua blue gown as she spun around the ballroom in Gorka Marquez’s arms.

The dancing duo managed to wow the judges with their impressive moves as they sailed across the floor during their effortless American Smooth.

And it’s fair to say the viewers at home loved it too as they swarmed to social media to share their love for the blonde bombshell online.

It comes after Helen confessed she tried to do a runner from Strictly by fleeing through a fire exit just moments before the cameras started rolling.

During her radio show, the loving mum – who is currently one of the top contestants on the show – admitted she had a little wobbly before the show got under way.

She told viewers: “I had a little cry. I’m normally cool, calm and collected.

“I got on the dancefloor and they said, ‘When the audience come in…,’ and I went, ‘Oh crickey, yeah, there’s people’. I was like, ‘There a fire door, there, I can get out if it’ and I did.

“I said, ‘Just having a minute’. I literally ran. It was like when I did Celeb SAS, I tried to escape that,” she confessed.
