Owain’s initial message read: “From January I’ll be presenting the new Early Breakfast Show live from gorgeous Cardiff, making it the first daily Radio 2 show to be broadcast from Wales. I can’t wait to get started.”
Owain’s fans were not happy about losing their favourite weather broadcaster and took to Twitter to comment on the move.
One wrote: “Does this mean we are losing you as [North West] weather man?”
Another added: “Congratulations, but North West Weather will never be the same again.”
A sad viewer also tweeted: “Congratulations, but North West Weather will never be the same again.
Someone else also wished him “good luck” but told him that they “missed him not doing the weather”.
Owain’s new spot will see him replace Vaness Feltz and he will begin working from January 2023.
He has worked in the industry for 20 years and was clearly happy about the move.
Owain said: “When I asked my parents for a pair of turntables and a mixing desk from a DJ shop in Llanelli when I was 13, I never allowed myself to dream that one day I’d have my own show on Radio 2!”
He went on to say that he “can’t wait to help kick start the day on Early Breakfast” and Helen Thomas, head of Radio 2, even published a statement.
She welcomed him to the “Radio 2 family” and noted that his “deep connection to Wales is obvious,” so she is “delighted he will be broadcasting every weekday morning”.
His new boss said that his “warmth and wit make him the perfect host” for all their listeners “right across the country,” who have already “clearly and warmly taken him to their hearts each time he presented” in the slot.
