Britney Spears has come under fire after posing alongside a monkey attached to a lead in a clip posted on her Instagram.
The singer, 40, was in Mexico celebrating nearly one year since her 13-year-conservatorship came to an end and she became a “free woman.”
In the video, the Baby One More Time hitmaker was playing with a chained monkey, holding and kissing it as she chimed: “The monkey’s name is Justin Bieber.”

But the clip didn’t go down well with thousands of her 41.9 million followers, with countless heading straight to the comments to accuse the star of “promoting animal abuse.”

One fumed: “This is animal cruelty. Please do not endorse animals in captivity. They crave freedom too.”
Another seething user posted: “You gotta be kidding me? Promoting animal abuse when everyone know how all these poor animals are being treated for tourism and you got there and act all happy and posting it on here…what is wrong with you?! Like seriously.”

“Britney, don’t support animal’s in chains, please. You know what it’s like to be the freak of the show. You know what it’s like to be on a leash. Don’t support that!,” added a third.
Another echoed: “Encouraging animal abuse?! This ain’t it. You think those creatures LIKE being chained up and handled by stupid humans??”
While a fifth commented: “Omg so cruel these poor monkeys have the teeth pulled out so they don’t bite, they are abused all the life’s, it makes me sick! Do you not know this.”

This comes shortly after the Toxic singer publicly called out her mother, Lynne Spears after she begged her daughter to forgive and unblock her.
In a lengthy rant in a now-deleted Instagram post, the mum-of-two told her mum to “go f*** yourself” and said she prays the doctors who put her in a psych ward “all burn in hell.”
Britney was locked in the conservatorship from 2008 to 2021 and made it no secret that she blames her mum and dad for it.
