Strictly fan backlash as BBC accused of 'forcing' poorly Will Mellor to appear on TV

Strictly fans have criticised the BBC after a visibly unwell Will Mellor made an appearance on the spinoff show, It Takes Two.

The former Two Pints actor confessed he had also been unable to train properly this week due to his hacking cough and “full virus” and said he had spent most of his time in bed.

Will also said that he was “worried” about this week’s show and just wants to do his partner Nancy Xu’s “beautiful routine justice”.

The 46-year-old star told host Janette Manrara: “I don’t sound very good. I’ve been in bed, I’ve got a full virus, and I’ve not trained all week.

“I’m just hoping I can do what I can.”

This week’s dance will “shine a light on mental health” he hopes and added: “It’s got a great story about mental health and then dealing with mental health and pushing people away and ‘it’s okay not to be okay’.

“It’s mental health week and I’m an ambassador for a mental health charity and this routine represents that about a guy pushing his loved ones away.”

Janette added: “Well you know what you should be pushing away? That cold.”

Will said he was “sorry” and also apologised for his voice and joked that he was sorry if “he had put people off their dinner at home”.

Viewers were not impressed though and said that Will definitely should not be out in public when he was “highly infectious” and that “the mind boggles”.

One tweeted: “We’ve clearly moved past COVID times if Will is sitting in the studio in that absolute state… plsss just let him rest!”

Another added: “Was it the sanest decision to scrape Will out of his sick bed and dump him on the #ItTakesTwo sofa for a fairly dull conversation?

“They could have filled the 5-minute slot with Carlos and Nikita doin’ a reprise of their Argentine Rumba, surely.”
