Michael Jackson wasn’t 'fully functioning adult' after legal drama, says ex-security

Simon Newton, a celebrity bodyguard who worked closely with Michael Jackson, has said he wasn’t a “fully functioning adult” after his legal issues.

The former protection officer turned actor, who has starred in Final Score, worked with Michael during one of his trips to London which came off the back of a legal drama surrounding the late singer.

Simon, who has worked with the likes of Kendall Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid among a whole hoard of stars, has spoken openly about his time, admitting Michael didn’t seem 100% right.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, he said: “At the time, I had him, I think it was his first time in London for a very long time.

“I think he’d not been here and I think that was due to a court case, I can’t remember if it was because of the allegations or because he dangled one of his children over the balcony.

“I can’t remember if it was his first time back off the tail end of that saga but he hadn’t been here for quite a whole because of something he’d done.

“I don’t know is the answer [if he was guilty of the child abuse allegations], although I would say he didn’t strike me as a fully functioning adult.”

He continued: “What you saw on the stage is certainly not what you saw off the stage.

“He was a weak and frail guy off the stage but to see him on the stage, it was like he was 18.

“It was quite an amazing transition to see.

“Who knows if he did or didn’t, but he certainly wasn’t wired up the same as what you’d expect for someone of his age,” Simon added.

Despite the potential career-ending allegations, Simon admitted that these didn’t make protecting Michael any harder, in fact, the opposite.

“The fan build up was going to be difficult,” he said before continuing: “The guy could have killed them children and would have still had people who liked him.

“I don’t think his fan base was affected enough by anything he’s done for us to get an easier time.”

Despite working alongside famous singers and models, Simon – who has now established himself as an actor – hadn’t worked with any film stars beforehand.

Reflecting on this, he said: “If I’d been around actors a bit more or their agents, it might have been more useful to me now.

“Unfortunately I never looked after an actor, it just never really came my way.

“I mean, I might have got a bit further a bit quicker if I knew more people in the industry but I haven’t done too bad at the moment, so I’m happy with the way it’s going.”
