Ricky Gervais makes dig at James Corden with savage 'worst dinner party ever' tweet

Ricky Gervais took a cheeky dig at James Corden after the presenter was briefly banned from an upmarket New York restaurant over his “rude” behaviour

The Gavin and Stacey star is made headlines this week after Balthazar owner Keith McNally revealed he’d barred the actor for being abusive to his staff on two occasions, dubbing him a “tiny cretin of a man.”

McNally has since lifted the ban after the Cats star “profusely apologised.”

The tongue-in-cheek comedian took to Twitter to share a tweet from a fan making light of the accusations but also included a clip from his Netflix show AfterLife, where Ricky’s character, Tony Johnson, mocked James.

In the clip, Ricky’s character Tony is chatting to his colleague Kath (played by Diane Morgan) who is discussing who she would choose to attend her dream dinner party.

Among those on her list is James, saying he “never stops working” and they could take part in Carpool Karaoke, leading Tony to roll his eyes and say: “F**k me!”

The tweet, published by one of Ricky’s followers, included the clip and read: “James f*****g Corden. AfterLife @rickygervais. Worst. Dinner party. Ever.”

Ricky later reacted to a separate post by another Twitter user, who also seemingly mocked the Gavin & Stacey star, in a cheeky sarcastic tweet.

The online user said: “I’m sorry, but when you’re as talented as James Corden you get to treat people however the f*** you want.

“That’s the price we pay for the undeniable magic he brings to the table. And I’d gladly pay it, and so would all of you. He’s THAT good.”

A social media user reacted to the post and slammed the user for appearing to support James’ alleged behaviour but Ricky informed the person in question, they were being sarcastic.

Ricky responded to the now-deleted tweet: “I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure it was sarcasm.”

The saga began on Monday when McNally claimed Corden behaved badly at his former restaurant, Cafe Luxembourg, on several occasions and left one server “shaken”.

Posting an update to Instagram, Keith said: “James Corden just called me and apologized profusely.”

Declaring that “all was forgiven”, he said: “Having f**ked up myself more than most people, I strongly believe in second chances. So if James Corden lets me host his Late Late Show for 9 months, I’ll immediately rescind his ban from Balthazar.”
