Ex-EastEnders star arrested after scamming OAP out of £80,000 for 'sex services'

An ex-EastEnders star has been arrested after allegedly scamming a pension out of £80,000.

The OAP believe he was dating the actress who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The actress is being accused of alleged “catfishing” by acting as if she was in her 20s.

The star is said to have offered online sexual services to the old man, who is in his 80s, for a fee.

The pair met on a dating site a while ago and he was led to believe they were in a relationship, police say.

Concerned relatives were said to have contacted the police after they witnessed his life savings were diminishing.

The actress is said to be a household name and asked pals to deposit some of the man’s money in their bank accounts too.

The star in question was previously arrested in July this year on suspicion of conspiracy to commit fraud during a raid in East London. However, details of these allegations have only just come to light.

Fraud unit officers have confiscated electronic devices and documents after checking the address she is thought to be currently living.

Police have also revealed that another woman, 61, and two men aged 38 and 34 have also been held on suspicion of fraud by false representation over the same suspected “romance fraud”.

All four of them have been released and are under investigation.

Romance fraud is a confidence trick involving showing romantic intentions towards a victim.

Perpetrators will gain the victim’s affection and then use their goodwill to get the victim to send money to them.

Though this will be under false pretences or to commit fraud against the victim.

Romance scams mainly occur when a criminal adopts a fake online identity.

This will then gain a victim’s affection and trust.

A scammer will then use the illusion of a romantic or close relationship to manipulate and/or steal from the unknowing victim.
