BBC viewers brand Countryfile episode a 'farce' as fans slam 'pointless' segment

BBC viewers branded Sunday night’s instalment of Countryfile a “farce” after a “pointless” segment about an artistic light installation.

Host Matt Baker talked viewers through an impressive living art installation entitled the Green Space Dark Skies event.

The event was displayed on the programme on October 30, but not all viewers were happy to witness the beautiful artwork.

Holding lights and creating intricate patterns and shapes viewable from aerial shots, people ran around the peak district while shining the lights as the sunset.

Taking to Twitter, fans slammed the segment as a “farce”.

One penned: “Phuq me. What on earth is this light show farce on #Countryfile? Transporting all those people to the location then hammering the pathways. [sic]”

“This is all very interesting but it seems to me that #theoneshow would have been a more appropriate home for it than #countryfile,” added a second.

A third asked: “And the point of the light thing is?”

“Jesus #countryfile are dragging this feature out,” fumed a fourth when Matt Baker announced that viewers would now witness a 15-minute light show.

“You could have just wrapped some Xmas lights around some sheep and got the same effect,” said a fifth.

But some were loving the artistic expression and couldn’t help but gush over the creativity and beauty.

One person penned: “How brilliant is that? Such a unique way to show off the UK’s incredible scenery and mountains.”

Another echoed: “#Countryfile tonight was on a different level!!! Amazing.”

The event’s website sheds light on the event, where they explain how “thousands of people from all paths in life are becoming Lumenators, each carrying a low impact light into the landscape”.

Continuing: “Together, we are experiencing beautiful green spaces across the UK. Imagine thousands of lights making patterns on mountains, lakes and moorland across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

“These lights are sensitive to the night-time environment.”
