X Factor star spills on Dannii Minogue row after she joked about his sexuality

X Factor star Danyl Johnson has brought up the time he was publicly ‘outed’ by TV judge Dannii Minogue.

Back in 2006, Danyl starred on the ITV show and was in the overs category on the programme.

Danyl exclusively revealed that he went through a few different dramas during his X Factor stint including a row with Whitney Houston and an awkward moment with Dannii.

At the time, judge Dannii caused quite the controversy after she made a nod to Danyl’s sexuality rumours after his performance.

Viewers at home were fuming after she brought up what the papers had been reporting – that he was allegedly bisexual.

Danyl decided to change the pronouns in his song choice, to avoid speculation, and then Dannii referenced it during a live show.

The lyrics belonged to Jennifer Hudson’s And I’m Telling You and he changed it from: “You’re the best man I’ve ever known” to “best girl” to, ironically, try and avoid attention.

The moment received thousands of Ofcom complaints and Dannii received backlash from viewers on social media and her fellow judges.

Though Danyl – now a proud and openly out gay man – holds no grudges.

After he finished explaining his Whitney row – which he said she bit at him and told him that he was singing her song incorrectly backstage – he moved on to Dannii.

Danyl said: “Yeah, let’s not even get started about Dannii Minogue… If you need to ask what then you can watch it on YouTube with Dannii.

“I love Dannii – she’s great and whatever happened she apologised for – I don’t have to forgive her, she hasn’t done nothing to me and she apologised and it’s all done.”

Going in further about what happened with him and Whitney, Danyl explained: “So, I once had a call from Simon Cowell and he said ‘I heard you had an explosive argument with Whitney Houston’ and I was like ‘yeah, I had an argument with her’.

“So, what happened was they asked me to sing a song and I’d never heard of it and it was from her new album which had not been released at the time.

Whitney slammed Danyl’s attempt

“And they made me sing it in front of her and it was about her drug rehabilitation and stuff.

“So, I’m singing this song to her and she was like ‘na, no, you’re not!’ and I’m like I don’t have any choice on the song choice.

“Then she was like that’s not how you sing the song – and sat there with her mogul around her, Clive Davis.

“Simon then later called me and said ‘I heard it didn’t go down well with Whitney’.
