Matt Hancock 'thinks he’ll be hung out to dry' with Covid inquiry so 'made arrangements'

Matt Hancock has almost completed his first week of Jungle life on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! – and he’s caused quite the stir already.

Prior to heading on the ITV show fans were in uproar as they found out about the controversial signing as Matt, who is the current MP for West Suffolk, left his constituents for multiple weeks to appear on the show.

Matt also came under fire for his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic and his affair during lockdown – something which has already caused tension in the jungle.

Speaking to Daily Star, Newmarket councillor and former deputy mayor Christopher O’Neil has revealed he has a theory as to why Matt has likely signed up to the show.

Prior to his entrance, Cllr O’Neil said: “I wonder personally if, with the Covid-19 inquiry happening, they’ve asked for Boris Johnson’s text messages, WhatsApp messages and other communications.

“I wonder if he knows that and knows he’ll be hung out to dry.”

He added: “I think he’s setting up something for the future, I don’t know.”

And, in line with Cllr O’Neil’s theory, Matt has confirmed himself that he doesn’t imagine he will be serving in Government again after taking part in the challenging show.

Matt, who claimed he received a lot of support for his decision to appear on the reality show, said ahead of his stint: “I don’t expect to serve in Government again but there are lots of ways you can communicate and engage with people.”

He added: “When I got approached to take part, I did think long and hard about it but one of the reasons that I felt able to say yes was because the I’m A Celeb team have put in place a system so I can be reached at any point on any urgent constituency matters.

“Lots of people have a view on me from being health secretary in the pandemic dealing with some very difficult issues, but that’s not the whole story.

“I am looking forward to throwing myself into it all like I do everything in life. You can’t hide anything in the jungle, you see somebody warts and all.”

Matt has, so far, been voted to take part in every trial whether he is solo or joined by a fellow camper – however three other stars were voted to complete Tuesday night’s trial (November 15).

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues weekdays at 9pm on ITV.
