BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent thanks co-stars for stepping in as Gazza interview delayed

BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent has thanked her co-stars for stepping in when the show “needed them”.

Sally and Jon Kay were back on the famous red sofa on Wednesday (November 16) morning.

They chatted to Paul Gascoyne via video call on the programme but things didn’t go quite to plan before the interview.

Sally and Jon explained that Gazza “wasn’t quite ready” for his interview and instead handed over to Sam Quek and Gethin Jones to inform viewers what they can expect from the latest episode of Morning Live!

BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent has thanked her co-stars for stepping in when the show “needed them”.

After the segment, Gethin said: “Making us feel lazy this morning Jon and Sally.

“You’ve got Kevin Sinfield setting off on his ultra marathon, you’ve got Scott Mills on a treadmill, we need to do a jog around the studio before 9.15.”

Sally joked: “Now come on, I know you two are not lazy because you’re talking to us a good minutes earlier than you normally do.

“Thank you very much for stepping in when we needed you.”

Gethin Jones and Sam Quek helped fill the gap in the show

Gethin asked: “Did you notice it?” We’re always ready for you two, always.”

Gazza eventually appeared on the programme and chatted about the upcoming World Cup and his new film

It comes after BBC Breakfast fans were left feeling rather under the weather after spotting an odd detail in Carol Kirkwood’s morning report on Tuesday (November 15).

The forecast from the former Strictly contestant, 60, featured a cloud formation on the map which left viewers talking.

One Twitter user posted a snap of the creepy-looking face over the United Kingdom alongside the caption: “Atmospheric masked cloud face being shared by Carol this morning.

Carol hit back at a BBC Breakfast co star for making her “redundant”.

She was on the show last week with Ben Thompson, who was standing in for Jon Kay.

Ben began: “Now Carol we often say that the weather is quite complicated, don’t we? So far this morning you have told us temperatures are above average, we have rain which is really unpredictable – there is the whole lot today.”

Carol replied: “I think you’ve just made me redundant, Ben.” She added: “Yes, you are absolutely right, but I will press on anyway.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am
