Broadcaster Owain Wyn Evans has thanked fans for their love and support, as he bid farewell to his presenting role on BBC North West Tonight.
Owain has become a favourite with viewers since he began presenting the weather on the news programme in 2019, with the star later presenting segments for BBC Breakfast.
The broadcaster announced earlier this year that he would be taking over from Vanessa Feltz as the host of Radio 2’s Early Breakfast Show in 2023, and presented his final weather broadcast for BBC North West on Tuesday night (November 15).

Ahead of the broadcast, Owain had shared a sweet snap of him and co-star Roger Johnson on the BBC set at Media City, Salford, captioning the post: “Very emotional last weather forecast coming up on @BBCNWT. Rog and I getting ready for the tears @RogerJ_01.”
BBC North West Tonight later shared a video from Owain, where the presenter and talented drummer thanked fans for their support during his time on the programme.
He said: “Hello, hello darlings. It’s me Owain.
“I just wanted to say, thank you so much for all of your support over the past three years that I’ve been working here on North West Tonight. I’ve had the most incredible time.
“It’s been a weird one hasn’t it? Because a lot of that time kind of encapsulates the lockdowns. When I was doing my weather forecasts at home, with Franny my cat in the garden.”
Owain’s lockdown weather broadcasts also saw the star go viral when the talented drummer performed the BBC News theme tune, with the video being watched millions of times across the globe.
He later raised more than £2.5m for Children In Need after completing a 24-hour drumathon in 2021, with the star saying in the video that he couldn’t “believe that was a year ago”.
Owain closed the video by thanking viewers for their love and support, and paid tribute to his co-star Roger Johnson, saying: “Our viewers here in the North West are really special.
“The amount of love and support that I’ve had really since day one, has just been absolutely sensational.
“So thank you so much. I will really miss doing the weather here in the North West. I’m going to miss Rog. I’m going to miss everyone on the team. And of course I’m going to miss you as well.”
He also shared his excitement to connect with audiences in his new BBC role, adding: “But I’m not going too far of course, I’ll be on Radio 2 in January. So I hope to see you all soon. Stay safe, lots of love.”
