Matt Hancock’s politician pal Lembit Opik has claimed that he went on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! to “make a lot of money”.
The former health secretary came third place on the 2022 series of the ITV reality show, which ended on Sunday (November 27) night.
BBC Breakfast presenters Jon Kay and Sally Nugent welcomed former politician Lembit Öpik onto the show on Monday (November 28) to discuss Matt’s controversial television appearance.

Jon asked: “Did we see the real deal? Did we see the authentic Matt Hancock?
Lembit replied: “Even though the cameras are there, you cannot sustain it for three weeks. Even if you are a pretender.
“Matt didn’t go in to do anything other than make a lot of money I guess but also to seek a little bit of forgiveness as he said.
“You saw the Matt Hancock I know. It was a high risk strategy but it does seems to have paid off for him.”
However, Sally quickly pointed out “Lembit, you just said he went in to make a lot of money, I thought he went into raise the profile of Dyslexia?”
He replied: “Yeah I think he did but he made lots of money aswell, let’s not pretend.”
“The question is would have he done it for free? Maybe. He did manage, to my surprise by the way, to get the British Dyslexia Association on the map. It’s been mentioned many times.
“He’s the most successful politician to ever be on the show would suggest the public though Matt isn’t the terrible demon people thought.”
Jon said: “It sounds like you’re surprised how well Matt did.”
Lembit agreed: “A little bit surprised by mainly jealous, he did better than me.”
The former Welsh Liberal Democrat leader came 11th place back on I’m A Celebrity back in 2010.
England Lioness footballer Jill Scott was crowned Queen of the Jungle of the latest series with Hollyoaks actor Owen Warner runner-up.
She said at the time: “I just can’t believe it, this is amazing. I an going to owe my grandma a lot of money for those 12 million votes.
“I couldn’t have got it through it without all the other guys, it was a team effort.”
