Strictly Come Dancing star Helen Skelton confessed she “forgot who she was” amid her split from ex-husband Richie Myler.
The Countryfile presenter, who is partnered with Gorka Marquez on the show, confessed in a candid interview the effect Strictly has had on her life.
With tears in her eyes as she described her parents’ relationship, Helen confessed: “I did Strictly this year because sometimes you just need to jump on the opportunity and the chance to put a big smile on your face.”

She added: “For me, it’s a chance to be powerful and sassy and all of that, and I think that’s a good thing for me to explore.
“Strictly has given me so many things already. It’s helped me remember who I am, and remember what I’m about. I have got lots to be thankful for, and I know what I can offer.
“This dance is all about that. It’s about power.”
Speaking about her parents, who just want their “family to be as happy as they can be”, Helen was emotional as she said: “I hope they know how grateful I am for the unquestionable support that they give me and mine.
“And that’s the key. It’s unquestionable.”

It comes amid her separation from her ex-husband, with the pair announcing the end of their relationship back in April this year.
Helen made a short statement about the news on her Instagram Stories, writing: “Very sad to say that Richie and I are no longer a couple. He has left the family home. We will be doing our best to co parent our small children.”
She finished off her post with two broken heart emojis.

It isn’t the first time her split has been indirectly referenced on Strictly, with her partner Gorka making an impassioned speech while the cameras were rolling.
Leaving Helen with a “face like thunder”, Gorka said: “I know you’ve been having a difficult time. And I know you may feel like you’re not beautiful or good enough or anything.
“But if you don’t believe in yourself. I believe in you. Everybody here believes in you.”
Despite his heartfelt words, Helen was left biting her lip and rolling her eyes, clearly uncomfortable.
