GBBO's Sandi Toksvig seriously ill in hospital as she cancels tour dates

Great British Bake Off star Sandi Toksvig has been forced to cancel her New Zealand tour dates because she is too unwell to travel.

The 64-year-old is currently in Australia where she performed on Monday (November 28) and was due to travel to New Zealand tomorrow to take to the stage in Christchurch Wellington and Auckland.

However, her team took to social media to reveal the presenter has been hospitalised with bronchial pneumonia, leaving her unable to perform.

Bronchopneumonia is a type of pneumonia that affects the bronchi in the lungs and commonly results from a bacterial infection.

In the statement, Sandi’s team confirmed their main priority is getting her home to the UK.

The statement read: “Due to illness, Sandi has cancelled the New Zealand leg of her tour.

“She has been admitted to hospital with bronchial pneumonia while still in Australia and is unable to travel & perform. Our main priority is getting her home to the UK as soon as she is well enough – Team Toksvig”.

The comments were immediately flooded with messages from fans who wished the comic a speedy recovery, with many noting the star seemed visibly ill during her performances.

One user penned: “Please pass on our best for a speedy recovery. She said she wasn’t feeling 100% in Sydney but still gave us a cracking show.”

“Oh dear, sending her best wishes for a full and speedy recovery x,” added another person.

A third echoed: “I’m so sorry to hear this; please get well soon Sandy. We saw you in Brighton with our NZ friends who were staying with us, so so glad we saw you together.”

While another shared: “Gosh sounds awful. Get well soon Sandi! X.”

The QI host was travelling across nine cites in Australia and New Zealand as part of her live tour throughout November and December.

Sandi co-presented The Great British Bake Off with Noel Fielding from 2017 to 2020 and was replaced by Matt Lucas when she stepped down from the role.
