ITV fans fume at major shake-up as soap quiz cancelled at last minute to air old repeat

ITV fans were left fuming after the network switched gameshows in a last minute schedule shakeup.

As viewers began tuning in to watch The Big Quiz: Coronation Street Vs. Emmerdale, they were informed that there had been a “last minute schedule change” by the network narrator, before an old repeat episode of Beat the Chasers aired instead.

Fans were not happy, and took to the internet to blast the network, telling ITV to “get your s**t together.”

Taking place annually, The Big Quiz sees an assortment of stars from each long-running soap opera go head-to-head, answering questions on the biggest events and personalities from both shows.

A favourite on the calendar of soap fans, this year’s edition will again see Jack P Shepherd – David Platt in Corrie, and Mark Charnock – Marlon Dingle in Emmerdale, lead their respective teams.

The annual face-off has been pushed back from Monday to Friday.

Initially listed on the schedule for tonight, Monday 5th December, at 9:15pm, the programme will now air on ITV1 on Friday 9th December.

The exact time of broadcast is still to be determined as it will depend on whether ITV gets the World Cup quarter-final game between Netherlands and Argentina.

Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Metcalfe, and Ryan Russell, who plays Michael Bailey are confirmed to be joining Shepherd on Team Corrie, while Nicola Wheeler, who plays Nicola King and Jurell Carter, who plays Nate Robinson, are signed up for Team Emmerdale.

Beat the Chasers kicked off with contestant James who impressed viewers with his confidence and knowledge.

The contestant opted to go up against all five chasers, including Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty, Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan, Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace and Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis.

His confidence was earned as he bid for a 45 second match-off for a chance to earn £50k and put on an impressive performance.

Unfortunately he was beaten to the prize with one second left on the time sending him home with nothing.
