'Bored' Emmerdale viewers 'switch off' over Bernice's menopause storyline

Emmerdale viewers have been left fuming after Bernice Blackstock recently found out she is going through menopause.

The Dales resident has been experiencing symptoms and has been telling everyone in the village, which means some fans quickly became fed up with her repetitive dialogue.

Viewers turned to Twitter to complain about her and many complained that she was “acting like she had a terminal illness”.

One fan tweeted: “Bernice – Christmas 2032 – ‘It’s so hard when you’re going through the menopause. Did I mention I was going through the menopause? [Because] I’m going through the menopause’.”

Another wrote: “Bernice, playing the menopause card to death!”

A third also added: “Bernice is doing my head in. I get that the menopause is a significant milestone in any woman’s life and that it comes [with] difficulty. But she’s talking and acting like she’s dying! She [should] be grateful it’s not cancer, dementia, heart disease or any other serious illness!”

One scene saw Bernice sit down in the café and discover a joker from a deck of cards, which she appeared to take as a “sign”.

She began referencing tarot cards and believed that the card had been “left there for her” as she explained that a joker is similar to a “fool”.

Elsewhere in the soap, a new romance storyline has been confirmed for Gabby Thomas.

Executive producer spoke to Digital Spy about the upcoming love story and confirmed that a new character will be entering the village.

She revealed: “”We’ve got another new actor – Lewis Cope who’s playing Nicky the nanny, the manny, at Home Farm. I think it’s the first time Home Farm has had a nanny.”

Hudson continued: “He’s a very good looking nanny who catches the eye of Gabby the minute he walks in for the interview, and it’s plain for everyone to see that her focus is not on who will look after the children the best, but who will look after her the best!”

Jane then said that there is “lots of fun in store for Nicky and Gabby,” whose “fledgling romance” will play out in front of viewers.

However, “like any good story,” there will be “a few reveals along the way”.
