EastEnders fans will get a sense of déjà vu as the soap will revisit Ricky Butcher (Sid Owen) and Sam Mitchell’s (Kim Medcalf) romance.
The duo were the ‘It’ couple of the 90s and infamously ran off to Gretna Green to get married in an iconic episode.
Their marriage headed on a downward spiral two years later when Sam left Walford and Ricky in 1993, however was quickly dragged back by brothers Phil and Grant.

The couple have been the subject of will-they-won’t-they for decades but after both characters seemed to turn their backs on the square, it seemed like a reunion was out of the question.
Sam made her way back to Walford earlier this year however, while Ricky returned just last week out of concern for his sister, Janine.
When Ricky was at lunch with Janine and her soon-to-be husband Mick, it was clear Ricky’s affections for Sam were still present.
In scenes set to air next week, it seems the characters will head down memory lane and fully reignite the flame that’s been flickering for years.
As Mick is trying to win over his future brother-in-law, he agrees to put in a good word with Sam and eventually manages to score him a date.
Ricky is delighted when he finds out Sam has agreed to go on a date with him, but in typical soap form, nothing goes smoothly for the characters.
While in The Vic, Ricky and Sam have a row about how she looks down on him and he tells her she’s a loser in love.
After Sam abruptly leaves, Ricky eventually tracks her down at the café to apologise.
Sam concedes that he’s right and surprises Ricky with a sweet kiss on the cheek next to the mistletoe.
A thrilled Ricky gets a second date with Sam and they have a great time and even share a kiss in the Square.
Later, Ricky wants to know if they are dating, but Sam just tells him they are ‘seeing how it goes’.
