Susanna Reid made a cheeky career dig at her Good Morning Britain co-host Ben Shephard away from the cameras.
The ITV star teased Tipping Point star Ben backstage at Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards 2022 back in October.
But what better way to celebrate Susanna’s 52nd birthday than to share one of her witty moments away from the camera, where she’s capable of grilling prime ministers with her top journalistic skills.

Susanna hinted that her daytime host needed to win an award and was so eager for silverware that he was about to steal any trophy he could get his hands on – even if it wasn’t his to take home.
The pair spoke to Daily Star and other press after presenting the Good Morning Britain Young Fundraiser award to Tobias Garbutt Weller, also known as Captain Tobias.
The inspirational schoolboy, who has cerebral palsy and autism, scooped up the award for his selfless charity work, which has seen him raise over £158,000 for Sheffield Children’s Hospital and other good causes.
Both Ben and Susanna heaped praise on Tobias after presenting him with the award, but Susanna made time to poke fun at Ben when the Tipping Point host had to carry Tobias’ award.
Ben said of Tobias: “Every bit of his challenge, he’s got a smile on his face. Swimming, even when he was on his trike in the sleet, when he was running. He’s got this massive smile on his face. He just relishes the challenge. Loves pushing himself.”
Susanna cut in: “And he’s left you holding the award, Ben!”, prompting Ben to reply: “I’m the big winner! I’ve got to make sure this [award] gets back to him.”
She then joked: “You’ve wanted one for a while, haven’t you? So you’re lucky!”, suggesting Mr Shephard was in need of an award himself sometime soon.
But you could say Ben has been in the running for awards as GMB has been nominated for the likes of BAFTA TV Awards and National Television Awards over the last few years.
His colleagues like have taken home gongs though, such as Kate Garraway who won her second NTA following her documentaries about her husband Derek’s Covid battle.
Susanna noted: “Tobias is not here for the silverware,”, which Ben agreed: “He’s really not, is he! Bless him, but I know like his mum he’s going to be very proud to have this because it’s something that’s going to stay with him for a very very long time.”
She also praised Tobias, saying: “What’s brilliant about him is that he’s not here for his own award. He’s not here to take the limelight, is he? Tobias is here to celebrate every other winner! He doesn’t want to do the photographs and the interviews and I completely understand, because he’s here to celebrate everybody else.”
Ben added: “One of the really really important things about all our winners, they’re not doing this for any recognition. They’re just doing it because they want to make a difference.”
Mr Shephard has been on the judging panel for Pride of Britain Awards several times since this year.
