BBC Breakfast star Carol Kirkwood teases new family member as co-stars swoon

BBC Breakfast’s most loved weather girl Carol Kirkwood had her co-stars swooning this week as she teased adding a new family member to her brood.

Sally Nugent and Jon Kay joined Carol on the famous red sofa on Monday (December 12) to discuss England’s loss at the World Cup in Qatar.

The squad brought a rather unexpected new teammate home with them – Dave the cat.

Defenders Kyle Walker and John Stones fell in love with the stray tabby cat who lived near their hotel in Al Wakrah, and decided to give him a home.

The team weren’t the only ones enamoured with their new feline friend, as Carol was also wanting in on the action.

Chatting to sports correspondent John Watson, Sally joked: “Dave’s done really well out of this World Cup, hasn’t he?”

She added to co-presenter Jon Kay: “Lucky cat!”

He then questioned: “You were saying, how is it going to work?” as Sally mused: “I don’t know. They’ll have to do some kind of cat share, won’t they, like access agreements for the cat.”

Turning to Carol and her weather segment, Jon joked: “I know somebody else who’d like to share the cat,” while Sally agreed: “Aww, so do I!”

Carol then appeared on screen, giggling as she said: “Wasn’t that cat just beautiful, isn’t he, I should say.

“He’s got the right equipment – he’s got a nice fur coat on. Look at this temperature, minus 16 degrees at the moment!”

It comes after Carol announced her engagement to fiancé Steve earlier this year.

The news came out live on TV as Sally told Carol: “I’m a little bit concerned about you this morning. I don’t know how you’re managing to stand up with that giant rock on your left hand, Carol!”

Glancing down at her hand, Carol joked: “Oh, that one? Thank you Sal! It is rather nice, I got engaged.”

The pair were enjoying a picnic near their Berkshire home when Steve got down on one knee.

Carol told Hello! Magazine: “It was a lovely, sunny day and we had taken a picnic with us, and we were sitting by the river, watching the boats going by.

“Steve started fidgeting; I turned to say: ‘What’s wrong?’ He was on his knee, and he proposed.”
