Strictly fans rage at 'missing announcement' as 'worst couple' Hamza and Jowita win

Strictly viewers were left fuming after the “worst couple” on the night ended up winning the ballroom series as Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal triumphed – while fans were left wondering how the other dancers fared in the public vote.

The Countryfile cameraman and his partner were tipped as favourites to land the Strictly Come Dancing Glitterball Trophy going into last night’s final, but their error-riddled show dance looked like they might be overtaken by Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez.

Viewers were also enraged that an announcement was missing from the end of the show, with the BBC not revealing who came second, third or fourth, marking a change from normal.

Shirley Ballas told Hamza after the dance that he had “panicked’ and that the routine “went wrong” although he praised him for being professional and carrying on anyway.

Craig Revel Horwood branded it “underwhelming,” but Motsi told him: “You made a mistake and you moved on. Like we all do in our lives. The question is: did you touch us? Yes. Yes you did.”

After the dance, in Claudia’s area Hamza then turned to Jowita and said under his breath in a moment just caught by the live mic: “I’m sorry about that.”

And after Helen and Gorka scored 40/40 with a reprisal of their “revenge dance”, everyone thought the couple had it, with Hamza and Jowita the lowest scoring pair on the night.

YorkshireLive reported that the final leaderboard put Fleur and Vito on 119, Helen and Gorka on 116, Molly and Carlos on 11, and Hamza and Jowita on 113.

One fan tweeted: “Disappointing end to a great Strictly series. Helen and Gorka the real winners,” while another wrote: “Fleur danced perfectly tonight, she deserved the win. No idea why everyone was simping for Hamza so much.”

A further follower penned: ” Strictly fixed worst dancers. what’s the point”

Viewers were also angry that an announcement was missing from the end of the show, with the BBC not revealing who came second, third or fourth, marking a change from the final.

Viewers were also denied the chance to know where the losing couples stood in the final standings, marking a change from normal when fans learn the full voting breakdown to give the final results.

One said: “The viewers of a Strictly final this close deserve to know who finishes second and third. So do the contestants for that matter. And the bookies needing to pay out on top female.”

Former Strictly winner Rose Ayling-Ellis popped up in the final to congratulate all the contestants as she prepared to hand over her winner’s trophy, although she only appeared via video link.
