'Fuming' Strictly star Gorka felt 'more stress than others' ahead of Hamza win

Strictly Come Dancing’s Gorka Marquez was “stressed” and “sad” that he didn’t win the 2022 series following Hamza Yassin’s victory, according to a body language expert.

Spanish professional dancer, Gorka, has been a part of the Strictly pro dancer cohort since 2016, but after placing as joint runner up on three occasions – is it all too much for the pro?

The dancer hasn’t had much luck on the winning front since joining the BBC One programme, and last night when Countryfile’s Hamza won with Jowita Przystal, eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot his “fuming” facial expression.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, celebrity psychic and body language expert Inbaal Honigman, has revealed what Gorka’s boy language says about his reaction to Hamza lifting the coveted Glitterball trophy.

“As he waits for the results, Gorka’s face is already different to the others,” Inbaal explained to us.

She went on: “Whereas Vito, Carlos and Jowita display wistful expressions, faraway glances with their mouths turned very slightly upwards in a hopeful display, Gorka’s lips are stretched and his eyes turned upwards in a way that presents more stress than the others.”

Speaking of how each couple responds to the winning moment “in a totally different way”, Inbaal tells us: “no one can match Fleur and Vito’s huge delight at watching their friend win”.

“They’re clapping, they’re shouting and they seem really excited. Their bodies are turned towards the winners, applauding them,” she notes.

“Molly and Carlos are turned towards them as well, clapping enthusiastically with their hands in the air, clearly thrilled for the winners. But Helen at that moment turns towards Gorka to hug him as if she’s comforting him.”

Inbaal then reveals to us: “As we see each couple’s facial reaction, Gorka is applauding politely, his hands lowered and his eyes looking down. He does feel a little sad at that moment.”

In his first year, he was paired with Tameka Empson, and they were eliminated in week three of the competition the following year he was paired with Alexandra Burke, with them reaching the final but finishing as joint runners-up.

His next partner was Katie Piper, but the couple were eliminated in week four of the competition, finishing in 13th place.

Taking a break in 2019, in 2020 he reached the final with EastEnders actress Maisie Smith before the next year saw him reach week three with Coronation Street actress Katie McGlynn.

And finally, this year he was paired with Helen Skelton with the pair finishing joint runners up, which happened to be Gorka’s third time finishing second in a grand finale.
