General Hospital actress Sonya Eddy has died aged 55-years-old and has been praised a “creative angel” by her pal Octavia Spencer.
Octavia took to Instagram and shared a message addressing her friend’s death.
She shared a picture of the actress and told fans that “her friend Sonya Eddy passed away last night”.

The actress continued: “The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of General Hospital fans will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends and fans.”
Fans flocked to share their condolences and grief in the comment section.
One wrote: “This can’t be. She was a staple in my house growing up. The best nurse on General Hospital.”
Another also typed: “Huge General Hospital fan. This is so sad. Epiphany is one of my favourite characters. This is so sad.”
More of Sonya’s loyal following shared messages and admitted the show “won’t be the same without her” as her “character was the best”.
They went on to say that she “will be greatly missed by all her fans” and that she was a “wonderful actress gone too soon”.
Eddy joined the General Hospital cast back in 2006 and became a beloved fan favourite.
Sonya went on to appear in 543 episodes of the show as her character Epiphany, who was the head nurse and mother to Stan Johnson.
Eddy has also appeared in Patch Adams, Monk, Glee, Castle and Fresh Off The Boat among other works.
Her career began back in 1995 in her first break out role starring in The Drew Carey Show before she went on to land roles on the small screen.
She has starred in Married…With Children, Gilmore Girls, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Mike & Molly and Beverly Hills, 90210.
Sonya also took part in the show’s spin-off General Hospital: Night Shift.
The list goes on, with credits in Barbershop, Coach Carter, Bad News Bears and Seven Pounds.
Alongside her acting career, Sonya trained as a licensed vocational nurse and has used her large following to support doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals, especially during the pandemic.
Back in February, she led a new campaign providing scholarships to nurses.
Sonya’s cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
