The dad-of-five has also taken to the stage several times over the years in countless pantomimes.

His reason for leaving EastEnders was reportedly because he wanted to focus on pantomimes and it has something he’s continued over the years alongside playing Phil.

Speaking about playing Captain Hook in 2017, Steve said: “It’s lovely to have the live audience and it’s a completely different skillset, so they’re barely comparable.

“That said I do bring some Phil Mitchell onto the stage, and a bit of Steve and a bit of Hook as well, that’s what people get! A bit of fear and a bit of fun.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm
